Welcome Tetley to Humphrey House

Tetley is a senior male Pom-Chi who weighs around 14 pounds. He was surrendered after his owner could no longer care for him. One vet record shows he will be 9 in a couple weeks. The other shows he turned 10 a couple weeks ago. 🤷 I guess he's somewhere in between.

Tetley can be a little nervous at times. Right now his world has been turned upside down. He was with his owner since he was a 1 year old puppy. A friend was watching him after his owner had to move in with family but the friend recently broke her ankle, so she was unable to care for him either. That's when the owner made the difficult decision to surrender him to our rescue.

Tetley has a history of doing well with other dogs, cats, and older children - although he tends to playfully chase cats. He was housetrained at one point, but the friend that was watching him for the last 6 months preferred to use potty pads instead of taking him outside. With a steady routine, I'm sure he can get back into the swing of going outside. I am told that he does have some food aggression. I have not witnessed it yet, but it may come as he gets more comfortable in a home. Apparently once he is given food, it is his. Do not try to take HIS food away.

Tetley is neutered, chipped and current on vaccines, but is due for booster shots in a few weeks. If not adopted within a few weeks, we will update his vaccines. He recently had a full senior blood panel done and everything looks good.

Tetley is being fostered in Harford County, Maryland.

Welcome Chloe to Humphrey House

Chloe is a sweet 12 year old female Bichon/Toy Poodle mix who weighs about 14 pounds.

Chloe is a total lap dog who wants to be by your side at all times. Chloe has separation anxiety. When left alone, she will bark and cry. She also has crate anxiety to the point her previous owners felt she would hurt herself when crated. Chloe doesn't mind being groomed, and even travels well. Chloe needs a home where someone is around most of the time. Retired, works from home, or just a full-time dog parent would be ideal for this sweet girl.

Chloe is not house-trained even though her previous owner has tried for the past 6 years. Due to not being trained, Chloe was not allowed to sleep in her owner's bedroom, which lead to her crying all night, which eventually lead to her being surrendered.

Chloe is spayed, chipped and current on vaccines. She has been receiving a Cytopoint injection bi-monthly for allergies and is doing really well on that. She has done well with other dogs and cats. Chloe can be nervous with loud noises, so older children are preferred. A fenced yard might help with house training, but is not required.

Welcome Yoda to Humphrey House

Yoda (although he looks like a Gizmo to me ☺) is a 14 year old, 6 pound male Chihuahua who hasn't had it easy lately. He has been tossed from home to home over the last several years without any stability in his life. Most recently he was found in a trash bag, dirty and being eaten by fleas. His tail is a bony little nub that has obviously sustained trauma. A good samaritan took him in and eventually brought him to Humphrey House for Homeless Animals.

We can't change his past, but we are guaranteed to change his future! 💗

Yoda saw our vet today, and had a spa day. He received vaccines and had bloodwork done. Afterwards he had a soothing bath and nail trim. Our vet did note a small heart murmur and some dental tarter, but he is in overall good health for his age. We were able to confirm his age from a microchip that was implanted in 2015.

Yoda is a fragile little boy looking for a quiet retirement home. No young kids or hyper dogs. He is not a fan of cats either. Yoda is scared of loud noises, especially the sound of a trash bag. 😢

Toby Has Great News

Toby saw the vet today and has been cleared for adoption! 💗

Our vet took a sample from a couple of Toby's lumps and feels they do not need to be removed. Lumps & bumps can be common on senior pets, but should always be monitored in the future for any changes.

Toby is a sweet 8 year old, 18 pound Miniature Pinscher. He loves his toys a little too much. He clenches onto his toys, then dares you to take them. LOL! I suggest no young children due to how intensely he plays. He also does not like being picked up. I can do it, he just doesn't like it. He is a huge cuddler and loves sleeping right beside someone at night. He has done well with the other small dogs in rescue.

Humphrey House for Homeless Animals is located in Harford County, Maryland for meetings. We meet adopters by appointment only.

Welcome Tovi to Humphrey House

Tovi is a 5 year old female Miniature Poodle who weighs 18 pounds.

Tovi is an extreme behavior case. She has spent most of her life being bred in a puppy mill. Now retired, she needs to learn how to be a dog. Tovi is nervous going outside, terrified to walk on a leash, and nervous of people in general. She currently uses potty pads well, but then also lays on the dirty potty pads. This poor girl needs a lot of love, patience and guidance.

Tovi will need a very special home to help her feel safe - a quiet home where she can have her own safe space, like a puppy pen area, access to go outside, such as a covered porch, and definitely a fenced yard since she is a flight risk. When nervous or scared, Tovi runs to find safety. She has been amazing with the other small dogs in rescue and actually prefers their company over people.

Before coming to Humphrey House, Tovi spent 4 months in a home, but wasn't making any progress. When the owner left Tovi alone for a few days with her husband, Tovi began growling at him and decided she didn't like him anymore. We haven't had that experience with her, but it should be noted that if you push her too far, she could be a bite risk. Tovi needs an experienced home without children while she adjusts.

Tovi is spayed, chipped and current on vaccines. Humphrey House for Homeless Animals is located in Harford County, Maryland for meetings. Thank you!

Welcome Toby to Humphrey House

Toby was picked up as a stray, but no one ever came to claim him. 😢

Toby is a sweet 8 year old male Miniature Pinscher who weighs 18 pounds. He is a happy little guy and loves attention. Toby has done well with the other little dogs in his foster home.

Toby is neutered, chipped and current on vaccines. He will be available as soon as he is vet checked for some fatty lumps & bumps. Humphrey House for Homeless Animals is located in Harford County, Maryland for meetings. Thank you!

Welcome Elmo to Humphrey House

Elmo represents every reason why Humphrey House for Homeless Animals was founded.

Elmo's a senior...he's blind...he's deaf...he was neglected...and he certainly didn't deserve to be stuck in a shelter.

Elmo is estimated to be around 12 years old and weighs 16 pounds. We believe he is a Miniature Poodle, or possibly a Schnoodle (Schnauzer/Poodle). Despite being blind, deaf, missing half his ear, and roaming the streets of Baltimore city alone while covered in fleas, he is still the sweetest boy you could ask for.

Elmo has been cleaned up, chipped and vaccinated. He had bloodwork done at our vet yesterday and everything looks good. His eyes do not seem to be painful, so we have ruled out having to remove them. ELmo is being treated for a double ear infection, which may help restore some of his hearing. His next step is being neutered. While under anesthesia, they can evaluate his teeth.

Elmo is scheduled to be neutered this Friday (September 16, 2022) at Homeward Bound Veterinary Services in Bel Air, Maryland. He is available for adoption immediately as long as his adopter can accommodate his neuter appointment. Humphrey House for Homeless Animals is located in Harford County, Maryland for meetings. Thank you!

Welcome Charlie Back to Humphrey House

After 1 year exactly from the time we originally took him into rescue as a 3 month old puppy, Charlie has found his way back to our rescue through no fault of his own.

Charlie has spent the last year as an ESA (Emotional Support Animal) for his adopter. They went everwhere together, including moving to Georgia. Unfortunately, his owner was in an accident that left him unable to work, so they moved back to Maryland to start over. When his owner went to apply for benefits, Charlie was not allowed in the building. His owner made the bad decision to leave Charlie in the car. It was over 90 degrees that day. 😞 The police were called. Charlie was removed from the situation and taken to animal control. When Charlie wasn't reclaimed, we received the call to come get him.

Charlie is a 15 month old, 50 pound, very energetic hound/pit mix. He would love a fenced yard to run around in, although he'll still watch your every move and wont go far from his person. Charlie is a very affectionate boy that loves attention. He has done well with cats and other dogs, but his high energy might be too much for some.

Charlie is neutered, chipped and current on vaccines. He is currently being fostered in Abingdon, Maryland. Send us a message on Facebook to meet this energetic, handsome boy.

Welcome Stormy to Humphrey House

We haven't been able to accept many new dogs into rescue this year. Adoptions are at an all-time low while owner surrenders are at an all-time high. Luckily, after 6 long months, Jasper & Sebastian both found loving homes last week. So when we got the request to help Stormy, we were able to assist immediately.

Stormy was found living in deplorable conditions. I won't go into details. She was surrendered to a good samaritan, who then brought her to Humphrey House for Homeless Animals.

Stormy is a sweet, young female Chihuahua mix. Our best guess is Chi-Weenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund) that weighs around 7 pounds. She has typical puppy high-energy and will need continued training. Stormy needs to work on her leash manners, and also learn to chew on toys, not hands, lol.

Stormy will be available for adoption as soon as she is vetted. Humphrey House for Homeless Animals is located in Harford County, Maryland for meetings. Thank you!

Welcome Scotty to Humphrey House

This sweet senior Schnauzer was found living on the streets of Texas. This poor little guy is severely arthritic and deaf. I can't imagine how scary and painful it was to live on the streets with nothing but concrete and dirt as his nightly bed. So many people passed by him everyday and just kept going, until he caught the eye of one special woman.

This amazing person took Scotty into her home and had him groomed & vetted before sending him to Maryland to find his fairy-tale ending - a loving home of his own.

Scotty is estimated to be 10 years old and weighs 22 pounds. He is on joint supplements for arthritis and will take an occasional pain pill when needed. He was recently neutered, chipped, vaccinated and even had a dental visit with several extractions. His bloodwork was slightly off, so he was tested for cushings, but the test was inconclusive. The vet suggests follow-up bloodwork in a few months.

Scotty loves attention, and has tested well with other dogs. He is not a fan of cats. Scotty walks well on a leash, and will let you know when he needs to go out to potty. He is low energy, but still enjoys playing with his toys on occasion.

Welcome to Our New Location

We are proud to announce that Humphrey House for Homeless Animals is now officially located in Harford County, Maryland! 🎉🎉🎉

It has been very busy the last few weeks as we moved all the fosters, along with the resident Chihuahuas, to our new, beautiful home in Abingdon, Maryland.

We now have a half acre for the dogs to enjoy, a split rail fence that is secured with wire mesh, and are currently building an outdoor kennel to keep the little ones safe from hawks and other predators while outside. We even have an amazing outdoor space to hold adoption meetings!

Send us a message on Facebook to meet our adoptable animals.

Welcome Tiny Tim to Humphrey House

Tiny Tim flew in from Texas on Wednesday and boy are his legs tired 😂 Okay, that joke was a little...chi-sy. 🤣 Hello? Is this thing on?? 🎤

Tiny Tim came to us through several life saving rescue partners. Rose, with The Rueben and Abbi Project arranged for his rescue, and even fostered him until his flight out of Texas. Elaine, with the Southwest Animal Transport Team was generous enough to accompany Tiny Tim on his flight to Maryland. I can't thank these amazing woman enough for the difference they make in the lives of the animals they help save.

Tiny Tim is a 10+ year old male Chihuahua that currently weighs just over 5 pounds. He was originally found wandering the streets of Texas when a good samaritan stepped in to get him the help he needed.

Tiny Tim only has 1 tooth, but that tooth is so infected that it needs to be pulled. He has an appointment on Tuesday to address and evaluate the full extent of his dental disease. Afterwards, Tiny Tim will be looking for a loving retirement home to spend his golden years.

Send us a message on Facebook to meet this sweet little guy.

Welcome Sebastian to Humphrey House

Sebastian is single and ready to mingle.

Sebastian was surrendered a few weeks ago with his wife Ginger and their 3 beautiful pups. Although they have spent their whole lives together, they have decided that it's time for everyone to go their separate ways.

Sebastian is a 6 year old Chihuahua that weighs 8 pounds. He has a big personality tucked inside that cute little body. He can be nervous initially meeting new people but warms up to be a sweet, playful cuddlebug.

Sebastian can be dominant with male dogs, but wouldn't mind shacking up with a furry female. He has been held down by leashes and pee pads for most of his life. Sebastian would love to spread his wings and run free in a fenced in yard.

Sebastian is current on vaccines. His 4Dx test was negative. He is scheduled to be neutered on Friday. No more kids for this handsome stud. He will also be microchipped and get a pawdicure.

Welcome Ginger to Humphrey House

It's time to officially welcome Ginger to Humphrey House for Homeless Animals!

Ginger arrived almost 3 weeks ago with her husband and their 3 adult pups. Ginger was extremely nervous at the time. She was protective of her husband, often sitting in front of him so no one else could touch him. She was also very dominant with her children, constantly correcting them. She was so protective of her family, that we had to use bite gloves to handle her at the vet.

You see, Ginger was a result of an arranged marriage. Ginger and Sebastian were purchased together as young pups from a puppy mill in Pennsylvania. Before they knew it, Ginger was pregnant...then pregnant again. They now have 3 beautiful babies, Jasper, Pup-Pup, and Lily.

Now that the kids are grown, Ginger and Sebastian are getting a divorce. It's best for everyone. Sebastian and the kids need their independence, and Ginger deserves some time to focus on herself.

What does every woman do when starting a new chapter in life??? Have a spa day!!! Ginger had a bath, haircut, and her nails done. She looks great and feels fabulous! We're so proud of her for making this transformation.

Ginger is ready to move on with her life. She is looking for a human companion that can pay the bills and put food on the table. She looks forward to long walks and cuddling on the sofa watching movies. Her days of raising children are behind her. Ginger would love a quiet retirement home without young kids. Starting over is scary. Ginger will need a patient, loving home to help her through this life transition.

Ginger is a 6 year old Jack Russell Terrier that currently weighs 22 pounds. She is ready to get fit and lose a few pounds though. Send us a message on Facebook to meet this beautiful girl.

Welcome Happy Gilmore to Humphrey House

Welcome Happy Gilmore to Humphrey House for Homeless Animals! 💗

We want to thank the person that abandoned this sweet boy and left him tied to a pole at the vet's office in North Carolina. He could have been let loose to run the streets and get hit by a car. He could have sat in his crate and starved to death. He could have been "disposed" of in many gruesome ways. Although not ideal, he was left in an area where several caring people found him and jumped right in to help.

Happy has been neglected, starved, has urine burns & pressure sores from being in a crate, a skin infection, double ear infections, a tumor on his testicle, and his collar had to be cut off due to the scabbing that attached his collar to his skin. Through all this, Happy is such a sweet boy that is thrilled to start the new year with a new life.

Thank you to the Sparky Foundation for stepping in to cover the initial vetting for Happy. He was examined, given his rabies vaccine, microchip, 4Dx test, and medication in preparation for transport to Humphrey House for Homeless Animals. It is a miracle that Happy is heartworm negative!

Thank you to the kind soul that fostered Happy Gilmore until transport was arranged.

Thank you Res-Q Runner Transport & Rescue for getting Happy (and many others) safely to their rescues.

Thank you Pets in Need in Southern Maryland for sponsoring the transport. It truly takes a village.

Happy is settling in nicely at Humphrey House for Homeless Animals. He gets medicated baths, daily ear cleaning & ear drops, good meals, and tasty treats. He loves his soft warm bed, but isn't a fan of the snow, lol!

Happy Gilmore is estimated to be 6 years old. He will be available for adoption as soon as he is neutered. Send us a message on Facebook to meet this sweet boy. Humphrey House for Homeless Animals is located in Baltimore, Maryland for meetings. Thank you!
